Why Should My Child Be in Recital?

After a 2 year hiatus, we are very excited to be back on stage and have our dancers be a part of our end of year showcase on Saturday June 17, 2023 at 6pm at LaGuardia Community College (LPAC)!

This may be your dancer’s first recital and you may be wondering if your child should participate. Here are some reasons why a dance performance is a critical part of your child’s art and dance education.

  1. To celebrate their artistry!

Dance is a performing art. A performance is the culmination of what they’ve learned, their creativity and all that has blossomed in the dance classroom this past year. They are all young artists & this is the best way for us to witness it!

  2. Performing on stage improves confidence

There is nothing like the confidence a child gains by performing. While it can be scary, the feeling after a performance, the applause & all of the excitement, truly becomes a life changing experience. This confidence also helps with the life skills of public speaking & presentations that they will need as students and eventually as adults.

  3. Encourages goal setting & builds work ethic

Our young artists are encouraged to make goals while preparing for their end of year performance. They will work very hard to perform their best and practicing at home and in class will help build their work ethic.

  4. Encourages teamwork

While many may not view dance as a team sport, it truly is. As we prepare for a performance, it is important that each dancer work together. Learning to dance together as a group takes a lot of practice and goes beyond just memorizing the steps and movements.

  5. Builds memory

Learning the choreography for a dance takes A LOT of work! While it may be 2 minutes on stage, a single dance can have hundreds of movements. When dancing, 3 different parts of the brain are being activated and new neural connections are being made - listening to the music, creating the body's movement and then actually moving to the rhythm. (so cool right?!). Our brains become stronger because of dance!

  6. Creates core memories

We all still remember our recitals growing up. The excitement, dressing up, our family & friends in the audience - these days create memories that last a lifetime!

We are looking forward to making these memories with your family too!
