Staying Active This Winter

We know how important it is to keep those kiddos active throughout the colder months but also how hard it can be! Our kiddos LOVE to have fun & burning off that excess energy helps so much when it comes to focus & behavior. Staying active throughout the year & a focus on fun is very important to make sure our children love movement. So many times we grow up dreading exercise but when movement is intuitive & enjoyable, it becomes a habit for life! Check out our 5 favorite tips to help keep your children (& sometimes even yourself) active this upcoming winter!

  1. Make it FUN!

On cold days, put on a really fun playlist and have a dance party or create an obstacle course. After Halloween, we used a bunch of Halloween decorations to create an obstacle course at home before putting them away - it was a huge hit! You can also try some fun fitness dice to make moving into a game (plus you get moving too!) Fun Fitness Dice, Amazon ($13.99)

  2. Smart Screen Time

I know, I know.. screen time?! But there are some fun videos & ways to stay active when it is impossible to get outside. Cosmic Yoga & some other fun “exercise in disguise” videos are easily accessible on Youtube (a favorite at our house is RSD’s Ninja Soup!)

  3. Go outside

Being outside in the winter months can still be fun! Bundle up & go on a winter scavenger hunt - looking for icicles, leaves, or using this scavenger hunt kit to randomly draw a card and find it in nature! Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Kit, Amazon ($12.99)

  4. Take a dance class!

We offer so many different dance classes at Reflexion Dance & are following all COVID-19 protocols. Safety, especially in the winter months and cold/flu season, is our #1 priority. Check out our schedule at our main site: www.reflexiondance.com & sign up for a trial today!

  5. Exciting Chores

Making some chores into a “Minute to Win It” type of game (we use this for toy clean up sometimes & it works. like. a. charm!) can be super fun! “Can you sort the laundry in 1 minute?” “Can you pick up all the yellow cars in 1 minute?” “Put these toys away & run back” (plus adding a little obstacle to jump over is always a fun little surprise). Now I want to explain, there should be an expectation that the chore may not be done “perfectly” & to our liking but it is fun & they are moving - which is key!
